The internet took its toll when Yahoo posted the first image of Michael Fassbender dressed as an assassin for his upcoming movie Assassin's Creed, in development by Ubisoft Motion Pictures scheduled to be released in theatres on December 21st 2016. The movie is a theatrical film adaption of the immensely popular and award winning gaming franchise, Assassin's Creed. It should be noted that Fassbender's character as Callum Lynch is a role specific to the movie and not related to any of the story versions of previously released Assassins Creed games. Further, the film features some more special characters in the new world starred by Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed.

  • The film development was started in May 2011 where Ubisoft Motion Pictures confirmed a 3D release and reached a deal with Sony Entertainment to distribute the film but it was later changed to 20th Century Fox for unknown reasons. The film is being directed by Justin Kurzel and will be produced my Michael Fassbender who claims that fans can expect a good mix of the game and new story elements.
  • The film is based on the similar concept of recalling the ancestral memories through present day genetics as we have experienced in all Assassins Creed games. In this film, Callum Lynch discovers himself as a descendant of a secret Assassins society reliving the adventures of his 15th century Spanish ancestor, Aguilar, by unlocking his genetic memories which gives him enough knowledge and skills to fight the grievous Knights Templar in present day.

Michael Fassbender found the concept behind this film very interesting and said:

I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they told me the story behind it, and I thought it was very interesting — the idea of reliving memories.

Heads Up

The film has already entered production in February 2015, and Fassbender said on April 2015 that filming will start in September in the cities of Malta, London and Spain. Thus Fans can once again expect an engrossing feature-length motion picture of a leading gaming franchise reviving the memories of the feature film Prince of Persia: Sands of Time in 2010.
